Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Instructions for contributors to the magazine Zgodovina za vse (History for Everyone)

Contributions to the magazine are in Slovenian. The editorial board only accepts proofread and linguistically flawless contributions.

Discussions

Texts for the section Stories Written by Life, approximately one author's page in length, should contain:

  • a title (or a title in the form of a short, striking quote, which must be followed by a subtitle)
  • a text of approximately one author's page (up to one and a half pages) in MS Word, Times New Roman font, size 12
  • author's abstract (synopsis) up to 10 lines, author's surname and first name, academic title, profession and job title, institution where employed, its address, e-mail address (private address and e-mail). The author should include approximately 3 keywords with the author's abstract
  • summary of up to 30 lines
  • at least 3 to 6 image attachments. Image resolution at least 300 dpi. Submit attachments separately. In the text of the article, where a specific attachment should be placed, insert a legend containing the subtitle and source (authorship, who stores it). The authors themselves are responsible for obtaining permission to publish for the purposes of the article.
  • Notes (in the form of footnotes at the bottom of each page) should be in size 10. Notes should be abbreviated and contain only a reference to the list of sources and literature at the end. Notes should be written in a uniform manner. For archival sources, we use standard abbreviations for the archive, followed by the abbreviation of the fonds or collection, the signature or number of the file or box, and the number of the archival unit or name of the document. For literature, we list the author's surname and a suitably abbreviated title and page numbers. (e.g.: Gestrin, Slovenske dežele, 12). – Chapter Sources and literature at the end, in which all sources and literature used are systematically listed. Archival sources, literature, and, if necessary, periodicals and oral sources are listed separately. In these sections, the material must be listed in alphabetical order and in full, without abbreviations.

Archival sources

Archive, signature and name of the fonds or collection, technical unit (archival box), number or title of the document.

Example:

  • Archive of the Republic of Slovenia, AS 231, Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of Slovenia, 1945-1951 (box numbers if necessary). In the note, it is sufficient to state: AS 231, a.š. (box number), (document number or name).
  • Historical Archive Celje, SI_ZAC/0024, Municipality of Celje, archive box number, name or number of the document (year).

Literature – monographs

Surname, first name of the author: title (and subtitle) of the work (in italics). Place: publisher and year of publication.

Example:

  • Gestrin, Ferdo: Slovenske dežele in zgodnji kapitalizem. Ljubljana : Slovenska matica, 1991.

Literature – articles

We cite: surname and first name of the author, title of the article. Title of periodical or collection (in italics), for periodicals also the volume, year, issue and pages, for collections (name of editor), place and year of publication and pages.

Example for periodicals:

  • Slana, Lidija: From the history of Snežnik Castle and estate in Notranjska.

Kronika, 48, 2000, no. 1-2, pp. 20-41.

Example for a collection:

  • Melik, Vasilij: The Idea of a United Slovenia 1848-1991. Slovenia 1848-1998: Searching for Its Own Path (eds. Stane Granda and Barbara Šatej). Ljubljana: Association of Historical Societies of Slovenia, 1998, pp. 15-20.

Notes

Texts in the Notes section are usually shorter, and the same submission conditions apply as for discussions, but it is not necessary to submit a summary and author's abstract (synopsis).

Reviews

Texts for the section S knjižne police (From the Bookshelf) should contain:

  • An attractive, short title
  • The title of the reviewed work, cited as in the examples above
  • The text should be approximately 2-3 pages long
  • A scanned cover page of the reviewed work should be attached separately (300 dpi)

The editorial board of the journal will provide translations of summaries and abstracts into foreign languages (German and English).

The authors of the articles are responsible for the statements and scientific accuracy. Contributions are peer-reviewed. The review process is anonymous.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word document file format (doc or docx).
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided. The URLs are ready to click (e.g., https://zgodovinazavse.si/)

  • The text is 1.5 line spaced, uses a 12-point Times New Roman font; and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed into separate files and marked within the text at the appropriate points.

  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.

  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

  • Authors are required to include, in the scientific publications’ metadata, a unique identifier for the location (e.g., research data repository) where the scientific research data underpinning the publication is stored;

Open Access Policy

Authors should ensure open access to their own research data:

Authors may contact the Zgodovina za vse / History for Everyone journal’s Support Contact for further clarification and assistance with the preparation of research data.

Authors using existing data sources in their research must properly cite them. The method of citation is usually determined by the repository where the data is hosted. The Zgodovina za vse / History for Everyone journal recommends a citation method that aligns with the Chicago-style source citation.
